Venice, California, is known for many things: beachy vibes, souvenir shops, the smell of marijuana in the air, sketchy boardwalkers, and now, an Italian eatery owned by the last prince of Italy. Emanuele Filiberto, who calls himself “The Prince of Venice,” is the grandson of the last king of Italy.
We chatted with Filiberto, who shared a brief backstory on how he became the last prince. He explained that in 1946, Italy held a vote to decide whether to become a republic or remain a monarchy—his grandfather was king at the time.
After the people voted in favor of becoming a republic, Filiberto’s family was forced into exile and had to leave Italy. Though he now lives in America, his Italian spirit is alive and well, along with his passion for the cuisine.Filiberto’s restaurant “Prince of Venice” makes authentic food from the motherland. It started off as a food truck before opening the location in Venice.
The pasta is made from scratch in-house, and the menu includes Italian classics like savory Roman-style pizza, crispy-chewy arancini, tiramisu, and more. Guests can also watch chefs handcraft authentic pasta in the "pasta laboratory."
Since having to leave their homeland, Filiberto’s family was able to return to Italy in 2002. He says that now all of his businesses are devoted to sharing its rich culture with the world. Prince of Venice is located at 1091 Broxton Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90024.
