Burger King Italia and the “King of Cheeses,” Parmigiano Reggiano, have assembled their empires to introduce their new Parmigiano Reggiano Burger — a part of the fast food chain’s “Italian Kings” series dedicated to highlighting Italy’s most notable fares.

“This partnership with Burger King proves Parmigiano Reggiano’s versatility… and is the ideal synthesis between the excellence of Italian agrifood products and the American food tradition,” says Nicola Bertinelli, President of the Parmigiano Reggiano Consortium.

The Parmigiano Reggiano Burger is made with a new gourmet beef patty, Parmigiano Reggiano-flavored mayonnaise, arugula, fried onions and finished with slices of 15-month aged Parmigiano Reggiano cheese between a fresh brioche bun.

Produced strictly in select farms of northern Italy’s Reggio Emilia region, Parmigiano Reggiano is only made with three natural ingredients - milk, salt and rennet; and must be matured between 12-48 months before being sold.

In anticipation of this momentous collaboration, Burger King has purchased over 20 tons Parmigiano Reggiano wheels in order to meet such high demand —  with each wheel of cheese weighing roughly 90 lbs.

While the Parmigiano Reggiano Burger and the rest of Burger King’s “Italian Kings” series is currently exclusive to Burger King Italia, fans around the world can cook up their own version of the Parmigiano Reggiano Burger using the Consortium’s recipe until it makes its way to your local Burger King.
